Bali
Global Foundation (Yayasan Bali Global) is a Bali-based foundation
that was founded on 4 May 2002 in Peliatan, Ubud, Gianyar with
the vision “helping underprivileged people find better jobs
in the future” and the mission of “helping people
develop their full potential and learn skills via a Hotel Tourism
School”.
Two
of its main projects are the Panti Asuhan Bali Global (Bali Global
Orphanage) and the SMK Parawisata Bali Global Ashram Senior High
School, both located on the grounds of the Suly Resort in Banjar
Yangloni in Peliatan, Ubud, Gianyar (see Attachment I: Surat Permohonan
and Attachment II: Surat Izin/Permission Letter for Panti Asuhan).
The
SMK was established in May 2007 and classes began with 63 students
in July 2007. All of the students come from underprivileged families
from Buleleng, Mengwi,Karangasem,Gianyar,Kintamani and Nusa Penida
(please see Attachment III: List of Students); three of them are
semi-orphaned. The purpose of the SMK is to give these students
the opportunity to finish Senior High School and to learn skills
in the tourism industry; there are two majors: Food and Beverage
(Boga) and Front Office Management (FO). This is a National School
program and not a degree equivalency program (not “Paket
C”). The students follow the standard Senior High School
curriculum with the additional Boga and FO skills classes. Official
government recognition is in process and should be in place by
July of 2008.
The
school is the brainstorm of I Gusti Ngurah Sutariana, who was
an executive chef at starred hotels in Bali for twenty years and
is now devoted to helping these children make a new life for themselves.
The students are able to practice with the guests of the Suly
Resort.
The students live on the grounds in gender separated dormitories.
Twenty-one of the original students were not able to cope with
living away from home and returned to their villages so there
were 42 students (19 female and 23 male). And on 9 July
2008 we took again the student 50 people ( 24 boys & 26 girls).
Now, we have 124 students in total. Which are : 36 students from 3rd grade, 42 students from 2nd grade and 46 students from 1st grade. Now we have 60 male students and 64 female students.
